May is M.E. awareness month. Since you're reading this, you already know a bit about M.E. but there are still a few things you can do.
• The next time you see your doctor, ask them what they know about M.E. You can bring it up conversationally, mention that you know someone who has it, and ask them what they know about it. Find out if they've heard of it, if they only know disproven theories about it, or if they know recent information. If they mention graded exercise therapy, let them know it's been discredited. If they think it's psychological, let them know that the World Health Organisation classifies it as a neurological disease.
• Look up your country's organisation for M.E. In Australia it's Emerge at https://www.emerge.org.au/ In the US you can look up MEAction at https://www.meaction.net/countries/usa/
Sign up for their newsletters to stay up to date, and donate if you can.
• Write to your local politicians to let them know you want to see more funding for M.E. and Long COVID research.
• Take part in Blue Sunday - The Tea Party For M.E. Find information at https://the-slow-lane.com/blue-sunday/
Thanks for everything you've done to learn about M.E.
