Finally, A Good Experience

I had a good medical appointment yesterday. That seems like it shouldn't be noteworthy, but it is. I saw a physiotherapist for my shoulder, and not only had she heard of M.E., she was quite knowledgeable about it. It was amazing.

My appointment lasted an hour, and she kept checking how I was doing to make sure my fatigue wasn't getting worse. When I moved from a chair to the exam table she made sure I was comfortable sitting without a backrest. And she tailored my treatment for my rotator cuff so it would give me some benefit but wouldn't be strenuous.

It was amazing to be believed and feel supported. That experience was a stark contrast to the emergency doctor who told me it was possibly all in my head when I was in a crash and could hardly walk without Daniel supporting me.

Leading up to my physiotherapy appointment I was very apprehensive. Too many medical professionals either don't know about M.E., believe it isn't real, or think that Graded Exercise Therapy is the answer. I was definitely worried that I would end up wasting $100 only to be told that I should push myself to exercise. Unfortunately, bitter experience has taught me to keep my expectations low. Having such a good experience has been a huge morale boost.
