Rest

Here's something I wish I knew earlier in life- it is ok to rest. Everyone needs rest. I'm someone who now needs constant rest, but once upon a time I kept fairly busy. I worked long hours and liked to go out and fill my free time. I burned myself out over and over, and even though I enjoyed rest I believed that it had to be earned. I believed that I didn't deserve it because other people worked harder and longer.

Now I can see that rest is neutral. Resting is not laziness. It doesn't have to be earned and it shouldn't be judged. Rest isn't a reward that we have to compete for. If you work, use your PTO. If you don't work, you still need rest. Whether you literally take a nap or just take time to zone out and recharge, don't be ashamed to do it. Rest restores us, helps us heal, and is part of what keeps us alive. Don't wait until you're burned out or sick. Rest.
